About the Irish Cheer Sport Association
The Irish Cheer Sport Association was originally set up in 2007 with the name Cheer Ireland. This was Hayden McGurk's ideas to create a resource for cheerleading in the country as there was never one before.

In 2009, we have launched the organisation again in a bid to be recognised in Ireland as the leaders of Irish Cheerleading. Not only is the ICSA an online resource, we are now a resource of coaches, education and safety.

We are the only cheerleading association in the Republic of Ireland.

Our aims are to help developing new squads and helping pushing squads who are already set up in the right direction.

ISCA is now affiliated with the International All Star Federation (IASF),International Cheer Union (ICU), Spirit Industry Trade Association (SITA) and from April 2009 we are now members of the National Council of Spirit Safety and Education (NCSSE).

We held our first national championships in the autumn of 2009 and accommodated 300 competing athletes, 100 of them were from overseas and 200 were  Irish cheerleaders. At the national championships in 2010, we hosted 350 cheerleaders all of whom were from Irish teams. This is definitely a sign of the sport developing.

In 2009 we struck a friendship with the JAM Brands organisation who have mentored us and supported our organisation to make it bigger and better.

The first Team Ireland was formed in September 2009 and representing our country were the Senior Co-ed Squad and Junior All Girl Squad. Unfortunately due to an eruption of the Icelandic Volcano, the teams were stopped traveling.
Tryouts for the 2011 squad were held in Galway in September 2010 and now the Senior Co-ed team are hard at work training to compete in the 2011 ICU Cheerleading World Championships.

We have also now launched the National Cheer Coaches Registry in which Irish coaches would register and on doing so they would submit to the ICSA proof of qualification, insurance and Garda clearance documents. This is going to prove a very helpful tool for coaches, cheerleaders and parents. All coaches are named online and so anyone around the country can check the credentials of the coach they are dealing with.

In July 2010 the Irish Cheer Sport Association won "OUTSTANDING INTERNATIONAL CHEER COMPANY" in the Spirit Industry Awards in the USA. This is a testament to the constant contribution to everyone involved.

The plan for 2011 is to make the transition of the All Ireland Championships and for the ICSA to develop an Irish based education system relevant to Irish Coaches.

We are always looking for coaches to get on board with the ICSA, so if you have the time and can commit voluntarily, please get in touch.

In early 2012, Hayden McGurk stepped down from his position at the ICSA. Fiona Collumb was elected President of the Irish Cheer Sport Association with recomendations from Hayden McGurk & Sarah Barry.
