SPRING TUMBLING HITS IRELAND
On January 21-23rd 2011 the Irish Cheer Sport Association was delighted to play host to a number of clinics instructed by Lisa Aucoin from Spring Tumbling. Lisa from Canada works with many World Champion winning teams from all over North America & Europe.
Workshops were held in Bangor with the Rathgael Raves, Dublin with the North Dublin Wildcats & our national squad Team Ireland and in Killarney with the KDC Southern Scorchers.
There are now 80 cheerleaders in Ireland who have had the Spring Experience and so much better for it. Lisa coached teams stunt and pyramid sequences as well as giving coaches advice on how to max out their score sheets.
The squads were also coached on how important drilling technique is and why our cheerleaders should be conditioning a lot more.
Lisa loved the way we incorporate the Irish culture into our teams and routines and thinks it is really a great asset. We are now hoping to get Lisa back to Ireland when she opens her Summer Diary. So if you would like to experience Spring Tumbling, please get in touch with us as soon as possible as the demand is very very high.
TEAM IRELAND "WOW" INTERNATIONAL CROWD!
Our national squad Team Ireland jetted off to Orlando, USA on Easter Sunday to compete in the 2011 ICU World Championships and IASF Worlds. The team have had 8 months of intense training to build up to the competition moment(s). There were teams competing from over 90 nations from every continent.
Team Ireland competed in the in the 3rd Annual ICU competition which they placed 10th of 15 national teams. This is such a great achievement for our first team from a nation that has been competing locally for 2 years. The floor the team performed on was a flat surface, which demands a greater skill to pull off certain tumbling skills.
For the IASF competition the team automatically qualified for the semi-finals which was against 46 other teams including, Top Gun, Cheer Athletics and Flyerz All Starz. The team qualified for finals and placed 19th overall out of the whole division. The squad were awarded with championship medals, and a 1st Place Nations Cup Banner...for being the first Irish Team make finals. The crowd feedback was awesome and people loved meeting Team Ireland.
We at the Irish Cheer Sport Association would like to publically thank every single athlete that represented our country. You were dream makers and an inspiration to us all. Huge thanks to Head Coach Fiona Collumb....and we couldn't of done this without Sarah Barry, Gerry McGinty and Jenn Byrne. Not forgetting the athletes parents who made this all happen. Go raibh maith agaibh!!
ELITE TEAM - TEAM IRELAND - SUMMER 2011
On the 14th August 2011, 30 athletes from all over the country came together to start working out for the national elite team. The team is open to talented athletes from around the country to come and work with other teams.
The first camp was of an analysis one, a chance for the 6 coaches to understand the capabilities of the athletes participating. The purpose of the camp is to hopefully recognise talent for our next Team Ireland tryouts which will take place in spring next year.
The way the camp was worked was based on work stations. The athletes were split up into 3 groups depending on their tumbling ability. The groups then rotated to different areas to work on either dance, jumps and tumbling. During all that the athletes all came together to demonstrate their stunting skills, mainly Level 2/3 stunts.
The great things for all involved is this proves that Ireland is becoming very self sufficient and does not always need helping hands from overseas because our coaches are very comfortable dealing with this level.
If you run a team in Ireland and would love a chance to get involved either by coaching or enrolling athletes onto the team which will train 4-6 times a year. Please do get in touch. Great job from all involved.
